Making a payment in the Melio app

With the Melio app, you can pay with ACH bank transfers, debit cards, or credit cards* - even if your vendor only accepts paper checks or bank transfers.

NOTE: Is this your first payment with Melio?

You need to link your payment methods. You can connect your bank account automatically or by using micro-deposits on the Melio app. You can also add a credit or debit card.

Here’s how to make a payment using the iOS app:

  1. Add a bill, or select a bill from the Unpaid tab or a vendor. You can also Pay without a bill.
  2. Tap Pay.
  3. Under Pay with, choose how you want to pay- bank account, credit card, or debit card. Tap Continue.

NOTE: Available payment methods

Every payment method you've already connected to your Melio account is available in the Melio app.

4. Under Send as, select how to deliver the payment to the vendor. If this is not the first time you’re paying this vendor, the delivery method will be pre-selected. 

a. Bank transfer (ACH): Takes 3 full business days to arrive. You'll need to fill in the vendor’s routing number and bank account details. Tap Save.

b. Let my vendor decide: If you don’t know the vendor’s delivery information, select this option. You’ll need to add your vendor's email address and tap Save. Your vendor will be able to choose how to receive your payment and fill in the correct details. Here’s what your vendor will see.

c. Paper check: Mailed to your vendor and takes approximately 5-7 business days to arrive. You'll need to fill in the vendor’s business address.

  1. If required, tap Continue.
  2. Under Delivery by, we’ll show you when the payment will be delivered using today as the debit date. Tap Change dates to update the debit date or tap Continue. 

NOTE: Fast ACH & fast check

Some payments are eligible for fast ACH. You’ll need to select whether you want it delivered Today (FAST) or via regular ACH (free).
To send a fast check, you’ll be able to select FAST via FEDEX or regular USPS.

7. (Optional) In Description, you can leave a note for your vendor to help with reconciliation. The invoice number is the default. You can also add your Vendor’s email.

8. Check all the details carefully. Slide to pay to make this payment.

9. If this is your first time making a payment with Melio, you’ll see a screen that says One last thing. There you need to enter your legal business information to ensure compliance and security. We won’t be able to process your payment without it.

  1. Add a bill, or select a bill from the Unpaid tab or a vendor.
  2. Tap Pay.
  3. Under Pay with, choose how you want to pay– bank account, credit card or debit card.

Want to share the payment details with your vendor?

This is only available to iOS users.

You’ll see the Payment created screen and you can easily share it with your vendor. Tap Done if you don’t want to share it. 

Here's how to share it:

  1. Tap Share.
  2. You’ll now have two options:

a. If we already have your vendor's email address, choose how you want to send the screenshot. 

b. If we don’t have your vendor's email address, you can add it on the next screen and tap Send to send by email. Or choose More sharing options to share via text or WhatsApp instead.

We’ll only share the amount, description, payment delivery method, and delivery date. We’ll never share any personal or bank account details.

 

How payments appear in the Melio app

Payments are synced both to the Melio app and Melio.com regardless of where you make them.

Here’s how payments appear in the Melio app:

The bill payment will appear in Vendors, under the vendor’s name with the label Scheduled. They will also be in the Scheduled tab.
