Making a payment in the Melio app

  • Updated

With the Melio app, you can pay with ACH bank transfers, debit cards, or credit cards* - even if your vendor only accepts paper checks or bank transfers.

This article explains:

Note: Is this your first payment with Melio?

You need to link your payment methods. You can connect your bank account automatically or by using micro-deposits on the Melio app. You can also add a credit or debit card.

Here’s how to make a payment:

  1. Add a bill, or select a bill from the Unpaid tab or a vendor. You can also Pay without a bill.
  2. Tap Pay.
  3. Under Pay with, choose how you want to pay- bank account, credit card, or debit card. Tap Continue.

Note: Available payment methods

Every payment method you've already connected to your Melio account is available in the Melio app.

  1. Under Send as, select how to deliver the payment to the vendor.

If this is not the first time you’re paying this vendor, the delivery method will be pre-selected.

a. Bank transfer (ACH): Takes 3 full business days to arrive. You'll need to fill in the vendor’s routing number and bank account details. Tap Save.

b. Let my vendor decide: If you don’t know the vendor’s delivery information, select this option. You’ll need to add your vendor's email address and tap Save. Your vendor will be able to choose how to receive your payment and fill in the correct details. Here’s what your vendor will see.

c. Paper check: Mailed to your vendor and takes approximately 5-7 business days to arrive. You'll need to fill in the vendor’s business address.

  1. Tap Continue
  2. Under Delivery by, we’ll suggest a deduction date to meet the bill’s due date.

Tap Edit deduction date to change it. Or tap Continue.

Note: Fast ACH

Some payments are eligible for fast ACH. You’ll need to select whether you want it delivered Today (FAST) or via regular ACH (free).

  1. (Optional) In What’s it for?, you can leave a note for your vendor to help with reconciliation. Tap Done.
  2. Check all the details carefully. Slide to pay to make this payment.
  3. If this is your first time making a payment with Melio, you’ll see a screen that says One last thing. There you need to enter your legal business information to ensure compliance and security. We won’t be able to process your payment without it.

How payments appear in the Melio app

Payments are synced both to the Melio app and regardless of where you make them.

Here’s how payments appear in the Melio app:

The payment will appear in Vendors, under the vendor’s name with the label Scheduled. They will also be in the Scheduled tab.
