How to connect your bank account instantly

Before making or receiving payments, you’ll first need to link your bank account.

Connecting your bank account instantly with Plaid takes only 1-2 minutes and is the fastest way to start using Melio–all you need is your online banking credentials.

There are 2 ways to connect a bank account instantly:

1. When making your first payment. 
2. In the account settings.

• We recommend connecting to your bank account instantly when making your first payment. 
• Whichever of the above ways you choose to connect, the procedure to connect instantly to Melio is the same.

Connect your bank account when making your first payment

1. Create a bill, select a saved one to pay, or make a payment without a bill.

2. Choose Bank account when asked how you want to pay.

3. Follow the below steps to connect instantly.

4. After you’ve successfully connected your account, you can continue scheduling this payment.

Connect your bank account in Settings 

1. Go to Settings in the left sidebar and select Payment Methods.

2. Scroll down to Payments & billing:

• Select Payment Methods to connect a bank account you'd like to make payments from.
• Select Receiving Methods to connect a bank account into which you'd like to receive funds.

3. On the right, in the Bank account section click Add this method.

3. Follow the below steps to connect instantly.

4. After you’ve successfully connected your account, you can make and receive payments to this bank account.

How to connect your bank account instantly

The steps are the same whether you choose to connect when making your first payment or choose to connect in the account settings.

1. Melio is using Plaid to connect to more than 100 banks in the U.S. Click Continue to allow Plaid to connect to your bank account.

2. When asked how you want to connect your account, choose Instant. Click Continue.

3. Select your bank from the list. Scroll, if needed.

Note: Don’t see your bank?

If you don’t see your bank listed, you’ll need to manually connect your bank account and verify with a micro-deposit. This method takes about 1-2 days.

1. Scroll all the way down.
2. Click Link with account numbers. 
3. Follow the instructions in the linked article.

4. To connect your bank account you need to log into it. Click Continue to log in.

5. Fill in your bank login credentials and click Sign in.

6. To verify your identity we’ll send you a code. Enter your mobile phone number. Click Get code.

7. In Verification, enter the code you received. Click Submit.

8. Check the box next to the bank account you want to connect to your Melio account.

9. Scroll down to Select additional information you want to share, check the 2 boxes. Click Continue. 

10. Under Terms and Conditions, check the box to accept them. Click Connect account information.

11. You’ve successfully verified your account. Click Continue.

Note: Is your account synced with an accounting software?

If your Melio account is synced with an accounting software, you’ll be asked to select the matching account in your accounting software. 

Select it and click Link accounts to continue. 

Here’s an example for QuickBooks. For Xero it might look a little different.

That’s it! Your bank account is successfully connected to your Melio account. You can use it to pay your vendors. 

Click Done to continue.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Melio’s Originator ID codes:

One last thing–make sure to make Melio an authorized debtor by adding it to your bank account’s whitelist. 

How? Provide your bank with our originator ID codes before making payments through Melio.

You’ll only need to do this once.
